Horseshoe Bend, Arizona

What To Expect

Horseshoe Bend is found smack bang… in the middle of nowhere!

On the border of Utah and Arizona, 10 minutes drive from the small town of Page and 2 hours from Grand Canyon National Park

You’ll find the entrance to the site from a car park situated on route 89 (A small fee is due US$10) and it’s a short walk from there, around 30-40 minutes if you are a quick walker or an hour if you’re a slow walker, though it’ll feel a lot longer in scorching temperatures. There’s no shade cover, so make sure to take a bottle of water with you, you will drink the whole thing and will be dying for every last drop on the way back.

When you arrive at the cliff’s edge you’ll be speechless. It really is an uncomprehendable sight, you can stand right at the edge of this unbelievable natural wonder and you’ll look over it in awe, chills will run down your spine and just for a moment you’ll forget how blisteringly hot it is!

It’s a photographer’s wet dream, no matter where you point the camera it looks good, the colours are vibrant and the character unmatched. Make sure to take your wide angle lens!

You will be clambering for openings for a look over the edge at the best view points, while other tourists take selfies on the teetering cliffs, 300 meters deep… the cliffs unfortunately known for what could be called a “beautiful ending” if you catch my drift… it’s known as the suicide capital of Arizona

6 million years in the making and it kind of feels like it!

Looking down from the sheer cliffs above Horseshoe Bend it is near impossible to comprehend how long it took the emerald green waters of the Colorado River to etch through the tough rocks of the canyon, so perplexing to imagine it’s much easier to just take a quick selfie and nick off.

If you’re going all the way to The Grand Canyon you’ll want to make the drive to Horseshoe Bend.
